Organic Corn 'Hopi Blue Dent' (Zea Mays) Vegetable Heirloom, 5g Of Seeds
Organic Corn 'Hopi Blue Dent' (Zea Mays) - tender ancient heirloom grown as 12cm tall bushy plants. Produce 20-25cm long cobs with smooth blue kernels that turn to royal blue when dried. Used for especially nutritious cornmeal and as ornamental. 90 days to maturity. Rare, premium quality, highly valuable variety.
Growing: Outdoors, full sun. Fertile, well-drained soil, preferably rich in organic matter. Sow the seeds 2.5cm (1in) deep after the danger of last frost has gone. For tropical climates, plant during dry season. For good pollination and full ears, plant in blocks of 3-6 rows instead of one long one. Thin seedlings to 20cm (8in) apart. Regular watering to ensure the soil is well moist (though not soggy!). Germination takes around 7 days. For companion planting benefits, plant corn with cucumbers, peas or pole beans. Plants that like shade also do well with corn. After the corn emerges, keep it moist and carefully remove the weeds. Additional organic fertiliser or compost is recommended, since corn is a heavy feeder.
